Left Hill Akira

Dates of birth and death unknown. Lived around the 5th century BC. Grand historian of the Lu state during the Spring and Autumn period in China. Zuo was the surname and Qiu Ming was the given name. One theory is that Zuoqiu was the surname and Ming was the given name. He was the author of the Spring and Autumn Zuo Zhuan (Zuo Zhuan) and the National Language, and it is written in the Analects that he was also respected by Confucius. However, after Zhao Kuang of the Tang dynasty stated that the author of Zuo Zhuan was a different person from Zuo Qiu Ming and lived during the Six Kingdoms period, many scholars after the Song dynasty agreed with this theory. The Siku Quanshu Zongmu Tiyao strongly asserts that Zuo Qiu Ming wrote Zuo Zhuan, but there are many who disagree.

生没年不詳。紀元前5世紀ごろの人。中国春秋時代の魯(ろ)国の太史。左は姓、丘明は名。一説では左丘が姓で、明が名であるという。『春秋左氏伝(しゅんじゅうさしでん)』（『左伝』）、『国語』の著者で、孔子(こうし)も尊んでいたことが『論語』に出ている。しかし唐の趙匡(ちょうきょう)が、『左伝』の作者はこの左丘明とは別人で六国時代の人としてから、宋(そう)代以後、多くの学者がこの説に賛同した。『四庫(しこ)全書総目提要』は左丘明が『左伝』をつくったと力説しているが、異論が多い。
