Born: October 16, 1799 in Tegucigalpa
[Died] September 15, 1842. San José. Central American Federation politician. President (in office 1830-40). Born in Honduras, he worked hard to form the Central American Federation. From 1827 to 1830, he participated in a rebellion against President M. Arce, and became the president of the Federation. He implemented many democratic reforms and anti-church policies, but came into fierce conflict with the conservatives, mainly from Guatemala. In 1840, the Federation was finally dissolved by the rebellion of R. Carrera, and Morazán went into exile. In 1842, he entered Costa Rica and tried to rebuild the Federation, but was captured and executed.
