When Taira no Koremochi and his party go into the mountains to hunt deer, a woman of high rank is having a drinking party with her maids. She offers sake to the passing party, and when she sees Koremochi getting drunk, she disappears. When Koremochi wakes up from a dream in which he receives a divine decree from Hachiman Shrine, a demon woman appears and attacks him, but he stands up to her, praying to the great bodhisattva Hachiman, and defeats her. [2] Kabuki Shosakuto. A dialogue of Gidayu, Tokiwazu, and Nagauta. Lyrics by Kawatake Mokuami. Music by Tsurusawa Yasujiro, Kishizawa Shikisa VI, and Kineya Shojiro III. First performed at the Shintomiza Theater in Tokyo in 1887. A dance adaptation of (1). Taira no Koremochi, who has come to Mt. Togakushi to view autumn leaves, defeats an ogre woman who has transformed into Princess Sarashina . One of the 18 New Kabuki plays. [1] 山野に紅葉をたずねて観賞すること。紅葉見。《季・秋》※夫木(1310頃)一五「時雨れゆくかたのの里のもみちかり頼むかげなく吹く嵐哉〈源俊頼〉」[2][一] 謡曲。五番目物。各流。観世小次郎信光作。古名「維茂(これもち)」。平維茂一行が鹿狩に山中にはいると、身分の高い女が侍女たちと酒宴をしていて、通りすぎる一行に酒を勧め、維茂が酔い伏してしまうのを見て姿を消す。維茂が八幡宮の神勅をうける夢を見て目をさますと、鬼女が現われて襲いかかるが、八幡大菩薩を念じて立ち向かい討ち平らげる。[二] 歌舞伎所作事。義太夫・常磐津・長唄の掛け合い。河竹黙阿彌作詞。鶴沢安次郎・六世岸沢式佐・三世杵屋正次郎作曲。明治二〇年(一八八七)東京新富座初演。(一)の舞踊化。戸隠山へ紅葉狩に来た平維茂が更科姫(さらしなひめ)に化けた鬼女を退治する。新歌舞伎十八番の一つ。[三] 長唄・地唄・荻江節・一中節などの曲名。
