Rio Doce (English spelling)

Japanese: ドセ[川]（英語表記）Rio Doce

A medium-sized river in Brazil, it flows through the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo in southeastern Brazil. It is about 580 km long. It originates in the southeastern Espinhaço Mountains in Minas Gerais, flows north through mineral-rich areas, turns east near the city of Governador Valadares, passes through the central part of Espírito Santo, and flows into the Atlantic Ocean about 100 km north of Vitoria. In 1942, the Brazilian government established the Doce River Valley Development Authority to develop the mineral resources of this region, and also established the Vitoria-Minas Railway along the river to transport iron ore, which is then exported from the port of Tubarão.
