Mitsugu Sengoku

1857-1931 A bureaucrat and politician from the Meiji to early Showa periods.
Born June 2, 1851. Joined the Ministry of Public Works in 1884, and became Chief Railway Engineer at the Ministry of Communications in 1926. In 1936, became president of Kyushu Railway. In 1946, became a member of the House of Representatives (elected three times, Constitutional Party). Served as president of the Railway Bureau in the Okuma Cabinet, and Minister of Railways in the Kato Takaaki Cabinet and the Wakatsuki Cabinet. Member of the House of Peers. In 1929, became president of the South Manchuria Railway. Died October 30, 1931. Age 75. Born in Tosa (Kochi Prefecture). Graduated from the Imperial College of Engineering.

安政4年6月2日生まれ。明治17年工部省にはいり,29年逓信省鉄道技監。31年九州鉄道社長。41年衆議院議員(当選3回,憲政会)。大隈内閣の鉄道院総裁,加藤高明内閣,若槻内閣の鉄道相となる。貴族院議員。昭和4年南満州鉄道総裁。昭和6年10月30日死去。75歳。土佐(高知県)出身。工部大学校卒。
