Year of death: Bunka 8.6.28 (1811.8.16)
Year of birth: 1724
A kyoka poet from the Edo period. His surname was Kaneko, he was commonly known as Kisaburo, and his first name was Amihire Harigane. In his later years, he took the name Tamaami, following the example of the monk Yugyo. In his prime, he went to Edo and ran a bathhouse in Kitakon'ya-cho, Kyobashi, while studying Japanese literature and waka poetry, and married fellow enthusiast Sume (whose kyoka name was Chienuchiko). He became familiar with kyoka poetry after participating in a kyoka contest at the home of Karagoromo Kikushi in 1770. In 1781, he shaved his head and retired, setting up Rakuri-an in Nishikubo Toki-cho, Shiba, where he devoted himself to teaching kyoka poetry without remuneration. He had many disciples, including those of the Sukiya Ren, and it was said that "half of Edo are disciples of Nishinokubo" (Kyoka-shi Hosomi), and he became a central figure in the kyoka world alongside Karagoromo Kikushi and Shikata Akayoshi (Ota Nanpo). In 1794, he published the Shin Kokin Kyokashu, a collection of kyoka poems from ancient times to his contemporary disciples.
