...There are oviparous and viviparous species. The giant hawk-eared shell, Megalophaedusa martensi , is the largest species in Japan, with a chestnut brown to yellow shell that reaches 4.7 cm in height and 1.1 cm in width. It is found in the Kanto Mountains, Chugoku and northern Shikoku, and is often found in the gravel beneath fallen leaves in mountainous areas.
