The title of the Muromachi Shogunate. "Monotsugi" means to act as intermediary, and was placed in the Imperial family and the Shogun family. However, in the Muromachi period, as the family lineage of the intermediary gradually became fixed, they came to be called "Monotsugishu". The Monotsugishu, which are said to have been established during the Eikyou period (1429-1441) of the sixth Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshinori, served in the Imperial Palace on designated days such as the first five days of the New Year and on festival days, announcing the names of guests and showing off gifts. In the mid-Muromachi period, the clans of Odate, Hatakeyama, Ise, and Kozuke became hereditary as the "Monotsugi" families (Odate Hisauji, "Monotsugi-ki from Choroku 2nd Year"). In terms of family rank, they were ranked second to the Oheyashu. [Kazuhiko Sato] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
