Nobutsuna Sasaki - Sasaki no Butsuna

Japanese: 佐々木信綱 - ささきのぶつな
Nobutsuna Sasaki - Sasaki no Butsuna

A military commander in the early Kamakura period. The fourth son of Sadatsuna. His mother was the daughter of Nitta Yoshishige. He was commonly known as Shiro. In 1200 (Shoji 2), he received orders from the shogunate to subjugate Kashiwabara Tamenaga, a resident of Omi Kashiwabara Manor (Maibara City, Shiga Prefecture), and in 1205 (Genkyu 2), he joined the shogunate army to attack Hiraga Tomomasa, the guardian of Kyoto, and was appointed Sakon no Shogen. When the Jokyu War broke out in 1221 (Jokyu 3), although many of his family members sided with the capital, Nobutsuna, who usually lived in Kamakura, followed Hojo Yasutoki and advanced in the battle of Uji River, where he distinguished himself in battle. After the rebellion, he was appointed as the governor of Omi in place of his elder brother Hirotsuna, who had joined the Kyoto faction, and in 1227 (Ansei 1) he was given the position of land steward of the Sasaki clan's main estates, Sasaki Manor (Omihachiman City, Shiga Prefecture) and Katata Manor (Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture). In 1234 (Bunreki 1), he joined the Council of Councilors and served in this position for two years. After resigning, he suddenly went to Kyoto, became a monk, and took the name Kyokaa, living in seclusion.
