Founded in Paris in 1859, it is the oldest monthly art magazine still in publication today. Its meaning is "information on art." The editor-in-chief was first Édouard Houssaye, and successive generations of critics and enthusiasts took over the role, including Charles Ephrussi, Roger Marx, and Georges Wildenstein. Its authority has not diminished to this day, as it maintains an empirical, scientific attitude and continues to publish excellent articles and critiques.
