The generic name of 2-methyl-2-propyl-1,3-propanediyl dicarbamate. C 9 H 18 N 2 O 4 (218.25). It is obtained by synthesizing 2-methyl-2-propyl-1,3-propanediol from propionaldehyde, reacting this with phosgene to make a carbonate ester, and then reacting with NH 3. White crystalline powder. Recrystallized from hot water. Melting point 104-106 °C. Odorless, bitter taste. Dissolves at 0.34% (weight/weight) in water at 20 °C. Easily soluble in ethanol. Stable in acids and alkalis. Used as a psychotropic drug. It suppresses the function of the interneuron system of the thalamus, blocks the interneurons of the polysynaptic reflex arc of the spinal cord, and relieves and eliminates anxiety and tension. It has almost no effect on the autonomic nervous system. [CAS 57-53-4] Source: Morikita Publishing "Chemical Dictionary (2nd Edition)" Information about the Chemical Dictionary 2nd Edition |
