Cast iron ruler - Imono jaku

A ruler used to make wooden patterns for casting. The dimensions of the pattern must be larger than the dimensions of the casting to be made, so the ruler's scale is made as large as necessary. The elongation rate varies depending on the material of the casting, and there are many different types, ranging from roughly 4/1000 to 40/1000. Of these, the most common are 8/1000, 10/12, 15/1000, 20/1000, and 25/1000, which are called ordinary elongation, and anything other than these is called special elongation. 10/1000 is used for cast iron, 15/1000 for cast steel, and 17/1000 for brass.

鋳物用の木型をつくるために用いられる物差し。木型の寸法は、つくろうとする鋳物の寸法よりも大きめにしなければならないので、物差しの目盛りを必要なだけ大きめにしてある。伸び率は鋳物の材料によって異なり、だいたい1000分の4から1000分の40ぐらいまで多種類ある。このうち一般的なものは1000分の8、同10、同12、同15、同20、同25のもので、これを普通伸びといい、これ以外のものを特殊伸びという。鋳鉄用には1000分の10、鋳鋼用には同15、真鍮(しんちゅう)用には同17のものが使われる。
