One of the 33 districts that make up Greater London in the southeast of England. A borough of Outer London, it is located to the west of the City of London and north of the River Thames. Acton, within the borough, was the site of Bedford Park, built in 1875, and became a pioneer of the British garden suburbs. Novelist Henry Fielding and others lived there. It is home to a large number of commercial and industrial businesses and has a large overseas workforce. Area: 56 km2 . Population: 300,948 (2001).
