Five Muslim kingdoms were established in the Deccan region of India from the end of the 15th century to the beginning of the 16th century. The Bahmani dynasty, which was established in the Deccan region in the mid-14th century, declined towards the end of the 15th century, and governors in each region gained independence one after another. The five kingdoms were as follows: The first four kingdoms to gain independence were: (1) the Imād Shahi Kingdom (1484-1572) of Fathullah Imād-ul-Mulk, governor of Berar province; (2) the 'Ādil Shahi Kingdom (1489-1686) of Yusuf Adil Khan, governor of Belgaum province; (3) the Nizam Shahi Kingdom (1489-1636) of Ahmad bin Nizamul Mulk, governor of Daulatabad province; and (4) the Qutb Shahi Kingdom (1512-1687) of Sultan Quli Qutb Mulk, governor of Telengana province.
