Diary of a performance by a female actor

This is the diary of Shingon Buddhist monk Gien, who was the 80th head priest of Daigo-ji Temple and bestowed the title of jungo (junsangu). It consists of 62 volumes and covers the period from 1596 (Keicho 1) to his death in 1626 (Kan'ei 3). It contains detailed accounts of events within Daigo-ji Temple, such as the restoration of Sanbo-in and Kodai-in temples within Daigo-ji Temple, the revival of rituals such as the Goshichinichi Mishuho, and the process of compiling the Daigo-ji Shinyoroku. It also records his relationships with Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. A copy of the diary is in the possession of Sanbo-in Temple.

醍醐(だいご)寺80代の座主(ざす)で、准后（准三宮(じゅさんぐう)）の称号を下賜された真言宗僧侶(そうりょ)義演の日記。1596年（慶長1）から、示寂(じじゃく)の1626年（寛永3）に至る間の日記で、62冊ある。内容は、醍醐寺内三宝院、光台院の復興や、後七日御修法(ごしちにちみしゅほう)などの修法の復興、『醍醐寺新要録』の編纂(へんさん)の過程など、醍醐寺山内の動静が逐一記されているが、さらに豊臣(とよとみ)秀吉や徳川家康との関係なども記録されている。自筆本が三宝院に所蔵されている。
