Also called mineral acids. A term used in contrast to organic acids. While organic acids are acids that contain carbon, inorganic acids include acids that contain non-metals other than carbon, such as chlorine, sulfur, nitrogen, and phosphorus, as well as oxoacids such as perchloric acid (HClO4 ) , hypochlorous acid (HClO ) , sulfuric acid ( H2SO4 ) , nitric acid (HNO3), and phosphoric acid ( H3PO4 ) , as well as hydroacids such as hydrochloric acid (HCl), hydroiodic acid (HI), and hydrofluoric acid (HF), and even acids that contain metals such as chromic acid ( H2CrO4 ) . Carbonic acid ( H2CO3 ) and hydrocyanic acid (HCN) are also treated as inorganic acids.
