The founder of the Rokugo (Go) school. He was said to be a master of the small drum, and created new techniques such as the Raijo (Raijo) which added ingenuity to Noh music, and the Kodama (echo) which involves striking two small drums together. He influenced the Kabuki music of the Edo period. He retired in 1766 and took the name Rokugo Shinzaburo (first generation). His pen name was Chosai.
