Bemidbar; Numbers

Japanese: 民数記 - みんすうき(英語表記)Bemidbar; Numbers
Bemidbar; Numbers
The fourth book of the Pentateuch, a book of the Old Testament. In Hebrew it is called Bemiubar (meaning "in the wilderness"). The English name Numbers comes from the English translation of the title of the Septuagint, which describes the counting of the Israelites in Numbers 1-4. Its contents link Exodus and Deuteronomy, and it is a record of the arduous journey of the Israelites from Mount Sinai to the Promised Land. It includes (1) the covenant between God and the Israelites that was made through Moses on Mount Sinai the year after the Exodus, the census based on clans and ancestral houses to strengthen cooperation with Moses, the arrangement and roles of camps and marches (for example, the Levites as a priestly tribe), various purifications, the consecration of Nazirites, offerings, the Passover, etc. (chap. 1-chap. 10:10), (2) the record of the 40-year march after leaving Mount Sinai, during which they suffered oppression from foreign enemies and starvation, and the death of Aaron, the chief priest of the tribe, on Mount Hor (chap. 10:11-chap. 20), (3) It consists of three parts, mainly records of the Moabite period (chapters 21 to 36), including the victory in the battle against Sihon, the Amorite king, and Og, the king of Bashan, the arrival in Moab, God's covenant with Phinehas (the son of Aaron's son Eleazar), the census taken by Moses and Eleazar, the selection of Moses' successor Joshua, the various commandments, the conquest of the Midianites, and prophecies about the land of Canaan.
