Paper Shop Jihei
?-1720 A merchant in the mid-Edo period.
A paper merchant in Tenma, Osaka. He committed suicide with Koharu, a prostitute from Kinokuniya in Sonezaki Shinchi, at Daichoji Temple in Amijima on October 16, 1712. This incident was dramatized by Chikamatsu Monzaemon as a joruri piece called "Shinjuten no Amijima," which was performed at the Takemotoza Theater in the same year and became a huge hit.

Japanese:
?－1720　江戸時代中期の商人。
大坂天満の紙屋。曾根崎新地紀伊国屋の遊女小春と享保(きょうほう)5年10月16日網島大長寺で情死した。この事件は近松門左衛門によって浄瑠璃(じょうるり)「心中天の網島(しんじゅうてんのあみじま)」として脚色され,同年竹本座にかけられ大当たりしたという。
