Ridge - Se

A unit of land area unique to Japan. It is one-tenth of a tan (tan) and is equivalent to 30 bu (tsubo). It does not appear in the rice field system of the Ritsuryo Code, but appears in the land survey ledger of the Taiko Land Survey (1591). The Japanese word une is simply a borrowed character, and in China it is read as "ho" or "bou." It is a unit of land area from the Zhou dynasty, starting with 100 square bu and later changing to 240 bu. It is also said that during the Qi (Northern Qi) dynasty, 360 bu was used as an une, and in the Zhou system it was called sho une, 240 bu was called chu une, and 360 bu was called o une.

日本固有の土地面積の単位。1反(たん)（段）の10分の1をいい、30歩(ぶ)（坪）にあたる。律令(りつりょう)の田制にはなく、太閤検地(たいこうけんち)（1591）の検地帳に現れる。日本の畝は単に字を借りたもので、中国では「ホ」または「ボウ」と読み、周代からの土地面積の単位で、100平方歩に始まり、その後240歩に変わる。また斉(せい)（北斉）のとき360歩を畝としたともいわれ、周制を小畝、240歩を中畝、360歩を大畝とよんだという。
