Mirokuji Temple

Japanese: 弥勒寺 - みろくじ

This temple is of the Buzan school of Shingon Buddhism, located in Sumida Ward, Tokyo. Its mountain name is Mount Mantoku. The principal image, Yakushi Nyorai, is called Kawakami Yakushi and is known as a sacred statue. It was founded in 1610 (Keicho 15) by the monk Yuuban. It was originally located in Takajocho, Koishikawa, and then Bakurocho, Nihonbashi, but after repeated fires it moved to Fukagawa before moving to its current location in 1689 (Genroku 2). Due to the faith of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the temple was granted 100 koku of temple land, and it flourished as a branch of the Shingon sect and one of the four Edo temples. [Hayami Yu]

東京都墨田区にある真言宗豊山派の寺。山号は万徳山。本尊薬師如来は川上薬師とよばれ，霊像として知られる。1610(慶長15)僧宥鑁（ゆうばん）が創建。はじめ小石川鷹匠町，ついで日本橋馬喰町にあったが，たびたび火災にあい，深川の地を経て，1689年(元禄2)に現在地に移る。徳川綱吉の帰依によって寺領100石を賜り，新義真言宗の触頭，江戸四ヵ寺の一つとして栄えた。【速水侑】
