A former town in Futami County in the central eastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture. It occupies the basin of the Basen River and the Jōge River, tributaries of the Gono River. The main settlement has long been an important location connecting San'in and San'yo, and is served by the Fukuen Line and National Route 184. In addition to agriculture, there are factories producing medical and sanitary products, sewing, etc. In April 2004, it merged with Miyoshi City, Kisa Town, Miwa Town, Kimita Village, Nuno Village, and Sakugi Village in Futami County, and Konno Town in Konno County to form Miyoshi City. 43.68 km2 . 3,966 people (2003). 広島県中東部,双三(ふたみ)郡の旧町。江の川(ごうのかわ)の支流馬洗(ばせん)川と上下(じょうげ)川の流域を占める。主集落は山陰・山陽を結ぶ古くからの要地で,福塩線,国道184号線が通じる。農業を営むほか,医療衛生用品,縫製などの工場がある。2004年4月三次市,双三郡吉舎町,三和町,君田村,布野村,作木村,甲奴郡甲奴町と合併し,三次市となる。43.68km2。3966人(2003)。
