Mount Myoken

This mountain is located in the Hokusetsu Mountains in the northern part of Osaka Prefecture. It is 660 meters above sea level. It forms the border between Nose Town, Toyono County, and Kawanishi City, Hyogo Prefecture. The surrounding mountainous area is like a plateau, and at the top of the mountain is the Nose Myokendo Temple, a sacred site of the Nichiren sect. When the powerful Nose Yoritsugu built his castle in 1580 (Tensho 8), he enshrined the deity of talismanic protection for the home, but later converted to the Nichiren sect and renamed the deity of talismanic protection for the home to Hokushin Myoken Daibosatsu. As the faith in Myoken spread, people of other sects also temporarily converted, calling themselves Hyakunichi Hokke, and formed groups to make active pilgrimages to the temple. Even now, it is a popular place of faith and tourism, with many climbers. From the Nose Electric Railway's last stop, Myokenguchi Station, you can reach the top of the mountain by cable car and lift from Kurokawa. There is also a bus service available with a transfer from Ikeda Station on the Hankyu Railway's Takarazuka Line.

大阪府北部、北摂(ほくせつ)山地にある山。標高660メートル。豊能(とよの)郡能勢町(のせちょう)、豊能町と兵庫県川西(かわにし)市の境をなす。付近の山地は高原状で、山頂に日蓮(にちれん)宗霊場の能勢妙見堂がある。豪族能勢頼次(よりつぐ)が1580年（天正8）築城の際に鎮宅霊符神を祀(まつ)ったが、その後、日蓮宗に帰依(きえ)し、鎮宅霊符神を北辰妙見大菩薩(ほくしんみょうけんだいぼさつ)と改めたのに始まる。妙見信仰の広まりとともに他宗の者も百日法華(ほっけ)と称して一時的に改宗し講を組んで盛んに参詣(さんけい)した。いまも信仰、観光の地として登山者が多い。能勢電鉄終点妙見口駅下車、黒川(くろかわ)からケーブルとリフトで山上に達する。阪急電鉄宝塚線池田駅から乗り継ぎでバスの便もある。
