Glissando (English spelling) French

A musical term. A method of playing a passage quickly by "gliding" movements. In piano playing, it refers to the technique of sliding fingers or nails over the white or black keys. Compared to monophonic glissandi, glissandi of thirds, sixths, or parallel octaves is extremely difficult. Glissandi on the harp or xylophone is easy, but glissandi on the violin requires virtuosity. It should not be confused with portamento, which is simply sliding the fingers over the strings.

音楽用語。「滑らせる」という動きによってパッセージ（走句）をすばやく演奏する方法。ピアノ演奏の場合には、白鍵(はっけん)上あるいは黒鍵上で指や爪(つめ)を滑らせる技巧をいう。単声のグリッサンドに比べ、3度や6度やオクターブ平行のグリッサンドはきわめて困難である。ハープや木琴などのグリッサンドは容易であるが、バイオリンによるグリッサンドは名人芸的技巧を必要とする。弦上でただ単に指を滑らせるポルタメントの奏法と混同してはならない。
