Union coloniale française (French Colonial Society)

An association of managers formed in 1893 to promote the management of the French colonies. Its chairman was Mercé, who represented the Perrier Brothers Bank and was also a director of Comptoir d'escompte (one of the three major banks at the time, along with Crédit Lyonnais), and its steering committee included representatives of major banks and shipping and trading companies with deep ties to the colonies. The association's activities included pursuing the common interests of the companies, mediating conflicts of interest between them, examining and proposing economic and legal measures, and collecting and providing research and information.

1893年に結成されたフランス植民地経営を推進するための経営者の団体。会長に，ペリエ兄弟銀行を代表し，またコントアール･デスコントComptoir d’escompte(クレディ･リヨネとならぶ当時の三大銀行の一つ)の取締役でもあったメルセが就任し，植民地に利害関係の深い銀行や海運･貿易の大会社の代表が運営委員会に名を連ねた。活動の目標は各会社の共通の利益の追求と各会社間の利害の衝突の調停，経済的また法的方策の検討と提案，研究調査と情報の収集･提供などであった。
