Urajiroyouraku - Urajiroyouraku

Japanese: ウラジロヨウラク - うらじろようらく

A deciduous shrub of the Ericaceae family (APG classification: Ericaceae). The leaves are obovate with powdery white undersides. The purple-red flowers bloom in May and June. The corolla is short, tubular, bell-shaped with five lobes at the end, and the stalk is long and slender with many glandular hairs. It is found in the mountainous areas from southwestern Hokkaido to the central Honshu region. The species with short sepals is called Tsurigane Tsutsuji.

ツツジ科（APG分類：ツツジ科）の落葉低木。葉は倒卵形で裏面は粉白色。5～6月に帯紫紅色の花が開く。花冠は短筒状鐘形で先が5裂し、花柄は細長くて腺毛(せんもう)が多い。北海道南西部から本州中部地方の山地に分布。萼片(がくへん)の短いものをツリガネツツジという。
