Myaskovsky

Japanese: ミヤスコフスキー
Myaskovsky
Russian (Soviet) composer and educator. Also known as Myaskovsky. He studied under Lyadov and Rimsky-Korsakov at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and became friends with Prokofiev. In 1921, he became professor of composition at the Moscow Conservatory. He held that position for the rest of his life, teaching Mosolov, Khachaturian, Kabarevsky, and others. His compositions include orchestral works such as 27 symphonies (1908-1949), concertos, chamber music such as 13 string quartets (1930-1949), piano pieces such as nine sonatas (1909-1949), and songs. His works show his talent and advanced compositional technique that go beyond the framework of the "socialist realism" line imposed by the Soviet authorities, and he had a considerable influence on Prokofiev and Shostakovich. He is one of the composers whose future reevaluation is awaited.
