Mittelland Canal - Mittelland Canal (English name)

Japanese: ミッテルラント運河 - みってるらんとうんが（英語表記）Mittelland Kanal

A 330 km long canal stretching from the Bergeshebede on the Dortmund-Ems Canal in northwestern Germany to Magdeburg in central-eastern Germany. This canal makes it possible to navigate between the Rhine and the Elbe. At Anderten in Hanover, one of Europe's largest locks can be found, raising the water level by 15 m, allowing ships of 1,000 tons to pass through. Plans to link the Rhine and Elbe were made in the mid-19th century, but the link to Hanover was completed in 1916, and to Rothensee in 1938.

ドイツ北西部にあるドルトムント･エムス運河のベルゲスヘベーデから，中東部のマクデブルクにいたる全長330kmの運河。この運河によってライン～エルベ間の航行が可能となる。ハノーファーのアンデルテンには，水位を15mせり上げるヨーロッパ有数の閘門があり，1000トンの船が航行可能。ライン，エルベ両河を連結する計画は19世紀半ばにたてられたが，ハノーファーまでは1916年，ローテンゼーまでは1938年に完成した。
