A monster in Greek mythology. A dragon born to the earth goddess Gaia, it guarded the oracle at Delphi, which originally belonged to Gaia. However, at the command of Hera, it persecuted the goddess Leto, and was defeated by Leto's son Apollo. Apollo gave his enemy a proper burial and founded the Pythian Games to commemorate his death. ギリシア神話の怪物。大地女神ガイアの子の竜で，もとはガイアのものであったデルフォイの神託所を守護していたが，ヘラに命じられ，レト女神に迫害を加えたため，レトの息子アポロンに退治された。アポロンは，この敵の遺骸を手厚く葬り，その慰霊のためピュチア競技会を創設したという。
