An old town in Kaifu County, southern Tokushima Prefecture. Most of the town is mountainous in the Kaifu River basin, with the main settlements of Shikatahara and Ozato along the Tosa Highway downstream. Agriculture and forestry are carried out here, and greenhouse cultivation of cucumbers, persimmons, and other flowers is popular. Ozato was a southern base for Tosa during the feudal era, and has a complex town layout. The Kaifu River was used for transportation to the Kitou region in the north, and the Mugi Line runs through the town. In March 2006, it was merged with Kaifu Town and Shishikui Town in Kaifu County to become Kaiyo Town in Kaifu County. 209.22 km2 . 6,150 people (2003). 徳島県南部,海部(かいふ)郡の旧町。大部分は海部川流域の山地で,下流に土佐街道に沿う主集落の四方原と大里がある。農林業が行われ,キュウリ,花卉(かき)などのハウス栽培が盛ん。大里は藩政時代土佐に対する南方の拠点で複雑な町割を呈する。海部川は北の木頭(きとう)地方との交通に利用された。牟岐(むぎ)線が通じる。2006年3月,海部郡海部町,宍喰町と合併し町制,海部郡海陽町となる。209.22km2。6150人(2003)。
