Chinchilla laniger

...Its appearance resembles both a rabbit and a squirrel. It lives in the Andes Mountains of South America, and there are two species in this genus: the Chilean Chinchilla (Chinchilla lanigera ) (illustration) in northern Chile and the Bolivian Chinchilla ( C. brevicaudata ) in the Lake Titicaca region. The former is 25-26 cm in body length and 15 cm in tail length, while the latter is about 30-38 cm in body length and 8 cm in tail length.
