Born December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California. Eldrick Woods is an American golfer. Born to an African-American father and a Thai mother. Gifted with natural talent, at the age of three he completed nine holes in 48 strokes. In 1991, at the age of 15, he became the youngest player ever to win the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, and won the same tournament in 1992 and 1993. In 1994, he entered Stanford University, and in 1996, he dropped out and turned professional. During this time, he won the U.S. Amateur Championship three times in a row and the NCAA Championship. In 1996, the year he turned professional, he won the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award. In 1997, he made his first appearance in the Masters Tournament, becoming the first African-American and Asian golfer to win. He recorded the fewest strokes in Masters history, 270 strokes for 72 holes, beating the runner-up by 12 strokes. He broke one PGA Tour record after another, winning the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship in 2000, and then the Masters Tournament in 2001, becoming the first player in history to win four tournaments in a row. He also won the Masters in 2002. He won the Masters and British Open in 2005, the British Open and PGA Championship in 2006, and the PGA Championship in 2007, achieving his 13th Grand Slam victory. In 2008, he underwent knee surgery, but won the U.S. Open on his first tournament back on the tour, achieving the feat of a Triple Grand Slam (winning each of the four Grand Slam tournaments three times), second only to Jack Nicklaus.
