Nizam al-Mulk

Iranian politician. His name means "ruler of the country." Born to a landowner in a town near Tus in Khorasan. He first served the Ghaznavid governor of Khorasan, then moved to the Seljuk Chaghri Beg, and became vizier (victim) to two sultans, Alp Arslan and Malik Shah. He was also the de facto ater beg (guardian) of both sultans, and with his own private army he held real political power, carrying out reforms such as the establishment of administrative organizations, the military, and the establishment of iqta.

イラン人の政治家。名は〈国の統治者〉を意味する。ホラーサーンのトゥースに近い町の地主の家に生まれる。初めガズナ朝のホラーサーン総督に仕え，次にセルジューク朝のチャグリー･ベクのもとに転じ，アルプ･アルスラーン，マリク･シャーの2代のスルタンのワジール(宰相)となった。両スルタンの実質的なアター･ベク(養育者，後見人)でもあり，自らも私兵を擁し政治の実権を握って，行政組織，軍隊，イクターの整備などの改革を行った。
