It is a private institution. Its predecessor was the Taiwan Association School (later the Oriental Association College) founded by Katsura Taro in 1900 (Meiji 33). In 1922 (Taisho 11), it became the Oriental Association University under the University Act, and in 1949 (Showa 24), it transitioned to a new university under the new system (its name was changed to Takushoku University in 1926, to Koryo University in 1946, and to Takushoku University in 1952). As of 2010 (Heisei 22), it has five faculties (business, political science and economics, foreign languages, engineering, and international studies), a graduate school (six graduate schools: economics, business, engineering, language education, international cooperation studies, and local politics and administration), and a separate department for international students. It is located at 3-4-14 Kohinata, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo and 815-1 Tatemachi, Hachioji-shi, Tokyo.
