...And even among the naturally timid salamanders, there are quite a few that use active self-defense. For example, the North American salamander Desmognathus fuscus can suddenly jump up to 10cm as a threatening behavior. Others will curl their tails and shake their bodies, bite, excrete sticky mucus from their skin, or contract their throats to push air out and make noises.
