Yasutomo Akimoto

A feudal lord in the early Edo period. Son of Akimoto Nagatomo. Childhood name Ushibo, later Magoshichiro and Mohee. Born in 1580 (Tensho 8) in Fukaya, Musashi Province, he had an audience with Tokugawa Ieyasu together with his father in 1592 (Bunroku 1), and served in the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 (Keicho 5). In 1602, he was granted a fief of 500 koku in Adachi County, Musashi Province, and the following year, in 1603, he was appointed Tajima no Kami. In Sunpu, he became a kinju shutonin (attendant of the shogun) who acted as an intermediary between Tokugawa Ieyasu and the feudal lords, along with Okochi Masatsuna and Itakura Shigemasa. In 1614, he was awarded 5,000 koku in Adachi, Hanzawa, and Kodama counties in Musashi Province, and Gunma County in Kozuke Province, for his contribution to filling in the moat of Osaka Castle. In 1615, he served under Ieyasu's banner as guardian during the Siege of Osaka, along with Honda Masanobu, and searched for the remnants of the army after the castle fell. In 1622 (Genwa 8), he inherited the family title of 10,000 koku in Soja, Kozuke Province, upon his father's retirement, giving him a total of 15,000 koku. In 1633 (Kan'ei 10), he was awarded 18,000 koku in Tsuru County, Kai Province, and was transferred from Soja to Yamura, Kai Province. In 1616, he accompanied Tokugawa Ieyasu's coffin to Mount Kuno with Honda Masazumi and others, and the following year, in 1617, he accompanied him to his reburial in Nikko. In 1624, he served as the magistrate for the construction of the Nikko mausoleum together with Matsudaira Masatsuna, which was completed in 1636. In 1641, he was awarded a sword and silver for his services as the mausoleum construction magistrate. He was given a statue of the god from Toshogu Shrine, and had a temple built in Tanimura to house it, which was named Taianji. In 1705 (Hoei 2), his grave was moved from Taianji to Koganji in Sosha.

江戸初期の大名。秋元長朝(ながとも)の子。幼名牛坊、のち孫七郎(まごしちろう)、茂兵衛(もへえ)。1580年(天正8)武蔵国深谷に生まれ、1592年(文禄元)父とともに徳川家康に拝謁し、1600年(慶長5)関ヶ原の戦いに従軍。1602年武蔵国足立郡に知行地500石を賜り、翌1603年但馬守(たじまのかみ)に叙任。駿府(すんぷ)において大河内正綱(おおこうちまさつな)、板倉重昌(しげまさ)らとともに徳川家康と大名間の取次ぎをする近習出頭人(きんじゅうしゅっとうにん)となる。1614年大坂城の惣堀(そうぼり)埋め立ての功により、武蔵国足立郡・榛沢郡(はんざわぐん)・児玉郡、上野国(こうずけのくに)群馬郡の内にて5000石を知行。1615年大坂の陣には本多政信などと家康の旗下で護衛し、落城ののち残党を探る。1622年(元和8)父の隠居により上野国総社(そうじゃ)の家督1万石を継ぎ、併せて1万5000石を領す。1633年(寛永10)甲斐国都留郡(つるぐん)1万8000石を拝領し、総社より甲斐国谷村(やむら)に転封(てんぽう)。1616年徳川家康の霊柩に本多正純(ほんだまさずみ)らと久能山(くのうざん)に供奉(ぐぶ)し、翌1617年日光への改葬に供奉。1624年日光山御廟造営の奉行を松平正綱と務め、1636年造営完了。1641年御廟造営奉行の功により刀、白銀を賜る。東照宮の神像一体を拝賜し、谷村に一宇を建て安置し、泰安寺(たいあんじ)と号す。墓所は1705年(宝永2)泰安寺より総社の光巌寺(こうがんじ)へ改葬。
