Raw Silk Inspection Station

A national inspection agency that inspects the quality and weight of raw silk for export. It was established in Yokohama and Kobe in 1896 under the Raw Silk Inspection Office Act of 1895 (Meiji 28). Raw silk inspection was initially voluntary, but the Export Raw Silk Inspection Act of 1927 (Showa 2) made inspection of the exact weight of raw silk for export mandatory, and from 1966 onwards, raw silk for domestic use was also subject to compulsory inspection under the Sericulture Industry Control Act. As raw silk exports have almost completely disappeared in recent years, both inspection offices were abolished in 1980 (Showa 55) as part of administrative reform.

輸出生糸の品位、正量などの検査を行う国の検査機関。1895年（明治28）の生糸検査所法により96年に横浜、神戸に設立された。生糸検査は当初は任意であったが、1927年（昭和2）の輸出生糸検査法により輸出生糸の正量検査を義務づけられ、さらに41年以降は蚕糸業統制法により国内用生糸も強制検査の対象とされた。最近、生糸輸出がほとんどなくなったため、両検査所は行政改革の一環として1980年（昭和55）に廃止された。
