A suit for human activities in a space environment requires functions such as maintaining air pressure and temperature, supplying oxygen and water vapor, and protecting against radiation and space dust. In early manned satellites, in addition to space suits for extravehicular activity, pressure suits were used inside the satellite to prevent bodily fluids from boiling, but since the environment inside the Soyuz and Skylab spacecraft is the same as on Earth, crew members do not need to wear special clothing, and space suits are installed exclusively for extravehicular activity. Space suits for extravehicular activity are made of around 25 layers of synthetic fibers such as nylon and Teflon, or nylon coated with neoprene to make it airtight, to prevent damage from cosmic rays and micrometeoroid impacts. → Related topic: Spacewalk Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
