Sweet grass

Japanese: sweet grass(英語表記)sweetgrass
Sweet grass

...A perennial grass of the grass family found in hilly and mountainous areas (illustration). According to Makino Tomitaro, kobo means fragrant bamboo, and is named for the sweet fragrance of this grass, and its Chinese name, bamboo fragrant, and its English names, sweet grass and vanilla grass, are also named for the same reason. The other English name, holy grass, is a direct translation of the Latin genus name, meaning "sacred grass," and comes from the former custom of scattering this grass around churches on Christian holidays in Northern Europe.
