Linear A - Senmoji A

Japanese: 線文字A - せんもじエー

A script found on clay tablets and seals on the island of Crete, consisting of syllabaries and a few ideograms, which has yet to be deciphered. It was used from the Middle Minoan III period (c. 1800 BC) to the Late Minoan I period (c. 1410 BC), and contains 75 symbols, 54 of which are the same as Linear B. However, whereas Linear B was found only in a few areas, such as Knossos and Pylos, Linear A has been found throughout Crete, including at Knossos, Phaistos, Tylissos, Zafer Papoura, Kato Zakros, Palaikastro, Malia, and Hagia Triada, with over 150 tablets having been found at Hagia Triada.

クレタ島で発見された粘土板や印章などに記された文字で，音節文字と少数の表意文字から成り，いまだに未解読である。中期ミノアIII(前1800ころ)から後期ミノアI(前1410ころ)にかけて使用され，75の符号のうち54が線文字Bと同じものであるが，線文字Bがクノッソス，ピュロスなど少数の地域に限定されるのに対して，線文字Aはクノッソス，ファイストス，テュリッソスTylissos，ザフェル･パプラZafer Papoura，カト･ザクロス，パライカストロ，マリア，ハギア･トリアダなどクレタ全土から出土し，うちハギア･トリアダから150枚以上発見されている。
