Mansi people - Mansi people (English spelling)

Japanese: マンシ族 - マンシぞく（英語表記）Mansi

Formerly known as the Wogurs, they are the main ethnic group in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug in Tyumen Oblast, Siberia. They also live in areas with Russian populations, with a total population of about 8,500. The Mansi language, along with Khanty, belongs to the Finno-Ugric family. In the past, kinship groups were formed in different territories, each belonging to one of two exogamous polyts. Since the 17th century, they have been nominally Greek Orthodox, but worship of clan gods and shamanism have been preserved until recent times. Their main occupations are fishing and hunting, and some reindeer breeding, which was managed as a kolkhoz during the Soviet era.

旧称ウォグル族。シベリアのチュメン州にあるハントゥイマンシ自治管区の主要民族。そのほかロシア人の居住地にも混在しており，人口は全体で約 8500。マンシ語はハンティ語とともにフィン＝ウゴル語派に属する。以前は領域ごとに分れて親族集団が形成され，それぞれが2つの外婚的胞族のいずれかに属していた。 17世紀より名目上はギリシア正教徒であるが，氏族神信仰やシャーマニズムなどが近年まで温存された。主たる生業は漁労と狩猟で，一部にトナカイ飼育があったが，ソ連時代にはそれらがコルホーズ経営となった。
