A town in the southwest of Australia, in the southwest of Western Australia. Population 3,734 (1976). It is located 300 km (by road) south of Perth, at the southern end of the Darling Range, and is connected by road and railway. Although dairy farming, potato cultivation and other agricultural and livestock activities are carried out in the surrounding area, the main industry is forestry. Karri, Mari and Jarrah trees, mainly from the Eucalyptus genus, are cut down and wood chipped for export to Japan from Bunbury Port in the north, but the cutting down of trees has an impact on the environment.
