A town in the southwest of Australia, in the southwest of Western Australia. Population 3,734 (1976). It is located 300 km (by road) south of Perth, at the southern end of the Darling Range, and is connected by road and railway. Although dairy farming, potato cultivation and other agricultural and livestock activities are carried out in the surrounding area, the main industry is forestry. Karri, Mari and Jarrah trees, mainly from the Eucalyptus genus, are cut down and wood chipped for export to Japan from Bunbury Port in the north, but the cutting down of trees has an impact on the environment. オーストラリア南西部,ウェスタン・オーストラリア州南西部の町。人口3734(1976)。パースから南へ300km余り(道路距離),ダーリング山脈の南端部に位置し,道路,鉄道が通ずる。周辺では酪農,ジャガイモ栽培などの農牧業が営まれるが,主産業は林業で,カリ,マリ,ジャラなどユーカリ属を中心とする森林が伐採され,チップとなって北方のバンベリー港から日本へ輸出されているが,伐採による環境への影響が生じている。
