A type of hairstyle for women. It is another name for the Katsuyamamage, and was primarily a hairstyle worn by housewives. The Marumage was named after the shape of the topknot, which has a rounded mountain shape on the side, and became popular from the mid-Edo period onwards. This topknot also gave rise to new styles, such as the large Nabechomage and Gonsaimage, but with the arrival of the Rokumeikan era in the Meiji period, it was overshadowed by Western-style hairstyles. However, until before World War II, it was commonly seen in rural areas as a hairstyle worn by mothers at their daughters' weddings.
