Ryohei Uchida

Japanese: 内田良平 - うちだりょうへい
Ryohei Uchida

A leader of the right-wing and nationalist movements. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture. Studied at the Genyosha, he engaged in anti-Qing activities in Korea as a member of the Tenyukyo in 1894 (Meiji 27). After the First Sino-Japanese War, he conducted a survey of Siberia and advocated for the outbreak of war with Russia. In 1901 (Meiji 34), he formed the Black Dragon Society and advocated for Greater Asianism. After the Russo-Japanese War, he plotted the annexation of Korea as a consultant for the Korean Resident-General. During the Xinhai Revolution, he supported Chinese revolutionaries, but later switched to supporting the separation of Manchuria and Mongolia, and during the Russian Revolution, he advocated the dispatch of troops to Siberia. He also worked against democratic and socialist movements within Japan. In 1931 (Showa 6), he formed the fascist mass organization, the Great Japan Productive Party, and worked to promote xenophobia and ultra-nationalism.
