Malkata - Marukata (English spelling)

Japanese: マルカタ - まるかた（英語表記）Malkata

The ruins are centered around the site of the palace of Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty of ancient Egypt, located at the southern end of the Western Theban region of Upper Egypt. The mud-brick remains are important as one of the few discoveries of a New Kingdom palace, and feature murals common to Amarna art and a huge artificial pond. Since 1971, excavations by the Waseda University Ancient Egypt Research Team have been carried out around the Temple of Isis (built in the 2nd century) south of the palace, uncovering the site of Amenhotep III's shrine with a painted staircase, as well as the residence and cemetery of a Roman-era priest.

上エジプトの西テーベ地区南端にある古代エジプト第18王朝アメンヘテプ3世の宮殿址を中心とする遺跡。日乾煉瓦造の遺構は数少ない新王国宮殿の発見例として重要であり，アマルナ美術と共通する壁画をもち，巨大な人工池を伴う。宮殿南方のイシス神殿(2世紀建造)周辺では1971年以来早稲田大学古代エジプト調査隊の発掘が行われ，彩色階段を伴うアメンヘテプ3世の祭殿址，ローマ時代の神官の住居址と墓地が発見されている。
