Length measuring device

Also called a length gauge. A device for measuring length precisely. The most common type is one in which the object to be measured is clamped with a constant pressure between a gauge head fixed to a bed and a gauge head on a carriage that can move on the bed, and the amount of movement at that time is measured to within 1 μm using a standard scale built into the carriage with a micrometer microscope fixed to the bed. In addition to length, there are universal length measuring instruments that can measure internal diameters and screw pitches. There are also length measuring instruments that use an encoder instead of a standard scale to display the value digitally.

長さ計とも。長さを精密に測定する装置。代表的な形式は，被測定物を，ベッドに固定された測定子とベッド上を移動できる往復台の測定子の間に一定圧力ではさみ，そのときの移動量を，往復台に内蔵された標準尺をベッドに固定された測微顕微鏡で１μmまで読み取るもの。長さのほかに，内径やねじのピッチを測れる万能測長器がある。また，標準尺の代りにエンコーダーを用いてデジタル表示をしている測長器も使用されている。
