A sect that was established in Syria in the 11th century, splitting off from the Ismaili sect of Shiite Islam. It deifies the Fatimid caliph Hakim. It has about 900,000 followers in southern Lebanon and neighboring Syria and parts of Israel. It speaks Arabic.
