Japanese: 眉輪王 - まよわおう

Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. Grandson of Emperor Nintoku. Son of Prince Okusaka. Also known as Prince Mejiwa (Kojiki). Prince Okusaka was killed by Emperor Anko, and his wife, Princess Nakatsuhime, became the empress of Anko. Prince Mayuwa lived with his mother at the palace, but when he found out that the emperor was his father's enemy, he assassinated him and sought refuge with the then minister, Katsuragi Maru. In response, Emperor Anko's younger brother, Prince Ohatsuse (later Emperor Yuryaku), attacked Katsuragi Maru's house and burned Prince Mayuwa and Katsuragi Maru to death. There are many theories about this incident, linked to the subsequent movements of the Katsuragi clan, their relationship with the Soga clan, and the issue of the Five Kings of Wa, and some even doubt the existence of Prince Mayuwa and the incident itself.

仁徳天皇の孫。大草香皇子の子。目弱王ともいう(『古事記』)。大草香皇子は安康天皇に殺され,妻中蒂姫は安康の皇后となった。眉輪王は母と宮中で生活するが,天皇が父の仇であることを知り,天皇を暗殺し,時の大臣葛城円を頼った。それに対して安康天皇の弟大泊瀬皇子(のちの雄略天皇)は葛城円の宅を襲撃し,眉輪王,葛城円を焼き殺したという。この事件に関しては葛城氏のその後の動静,蘇我氏とのかかわり,倭の五王の問題と絡んで多様な説が出され,眉輪王の実在性,事件そのものを疑う見解もある。
