〘Noun〙 A type of popular song, one of the Kadozuke arts. It originated from the singing of nembutsu with a melody, and songs and phrases taken from sekkyo-bushi and joruri were sung to the accompaniment of a gong . It was popular from the Genroku to Kyoho eras ( 1688-1736 ). 〘名〙 俗曲の一種で門付(かどづけ)芸の一つ。念仏に節を付けて歌ったことから起こったもので、説経節や浄瑠璃などからとった歌や文句を伏鉦(ふせがね)に合わせて歌った。元祿~享保年間(一六八八‐一七三六)に盛行。うたねぶつ。※評判記・色道大鏡(1678)八「沙門の説経をやつして、下僧のかたるを哥念仏(ウタネンブツ)といへり」
