...Polyester fibers and other fibers are highly hydrophobic, so the dye is easily distributed from the dispersing bath to the fiber and is substituted with hydroxyalkyl groups to make it easier to disperse in water. Dyeing is also done at high temperatures (130°C) or by carrier dyeing using fiber affinity auxiliaries ( o -phenylphenol, chlorobenzene, diphenyl, etc.). Disperse dyes are generally sublimable, so they are also used for thermal transfer dyes.
